Put simply the Active Display Unit is where a product is attached to unit that is connected to an lcd screen.  When a customer is in a retail store browsing and they pick up that product (could be a telephone or a running shoe for example) information on that particular product is displayed on the screen in front of the customer.  In the case of mobile telephones, a customer can find out the features of the mobile phone, the cost of the mobile phone – compare 12 and 24 month plans between different carriers, in an easy and clear way. When the customer replaced the product – the information will disappear from the lcd screen.
